About 'Write the Rainbow'
Write the Rainbow is a short story prize for the LGBTQ+ community, that aims to uplift and support queer writers by helping them get their work out into the world. Within my degree, I had the opportunity to start a community project, and I wanted to use it to create a space for LGBTQ+ writers to not only share their work, but be recognised for it. In order to make it as accessible as possible for this community, it was important to me that the short story prize is completely free to enter. Write the Rainbow is open to everyone who fits under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, especially those who often feel under-represented in writing and wish to change that.
Though, for now, Write the Rainbow is only a short story prize, I have hopes that in the future it can be more than that. It would be amazing to use this project as a way to show off LGBTQ+ writers in many other ways, including poetry prizes, anthologies and more.
